After Jili's house has been searched, her house has turned into a just a poor place, they sleep on mats and eat on crates. In this chapter she has gone through the searchings of her house and now she is starting to help her family and get her a better education. When she has gotten older she moved to the US to finish her education. So she can help her family when her life has change to a better life away from the cultural Revolution. I would say that this chapter is important because its is the end and that this shows that Jili and her family has gone away from the cultural revolution and was now a little bit happier than during the cultural revolution.
